Aokigahara Forest
Also known as Japan’s Suicide Forest, Aokigahara is a creepy patch of land that sits right under Mt. Fuji, and is the second-most popular location for suicide in the world. While some people go in intentionally to end their life, others become lost due to the local iron-rich soil interfering with compasses, resulting in their death.
This has led to a common belief that the spirits of the dead haunt the forest. The Japanese government has resisted publishing the exact number of people who have committed suicide here, in an effort to deter others, but it’s thought to have climbed to at least 100 people every year.
