Cultured Palate: Dishes from Sweden

6. Gravlax
Gravlax is another staple of the Swedish smorgasbord. While gravlax looks fancy, it actually isn’t that difficult to make at home. Unlike smoked salmon, which is more common in North America, all you need to make delicious gravlax is salmon, dill, sugar, and salt. The salmon is left to cure with the spices for several days before serving. These delicate slices of dill-cured salmon are often served with boiled potatoes and a sauce made out of dill and mustard, but they can also be served more simply on crispbread with a squeeze of lemon.
