13. Princess Cake
Prinsesstarta (or Princess Cake) is one of the most decadent Swedish desserts. A base of sponge cake holds layers of custard and whipped cream, which is finished off with a dome of rolled out marzipan. Traditionally, the marzipan is colored green. This cake was first introduced to Swedes in a cookbook by Jenny Åkerström, who was a tutor to three Swedish princesses in the 1940s. The princesses were said to be extremely partial to this recipe, which is how it got its name.
