Occasionally, chip manufacturers host contests to solicit new flavor ideas from their loyal customers. The result of these contests is usually a few solid new flavors, and a whole warehouse full of terrible ones — cappuccino, mango salsa, and cheddar bacon mac & cheese were the runner’s up for Lay’s Do Us A Flavor contest last year. One of their most successful winners to date is the Wasabi Ginger flavor — tasters were drawn to it because it actually tasted like what it claimed to be. The heat of the wasabi and the warm spiciness of the ginger really came through.
