Another Disney Theatrical Productions show that made a big impact is their 2011 show Aladdin, based on the wildly popular 1992 movie. Like the Frozen musical, all the most beloved songs from the movie were given the musical treatment, and several other new songs were written specifically for the stage version.
While the musical did well and has since been produced on the West End as well as in Australia, many people expressed disappointment that the majority of the actors who playing Middle Eastern characters were white. In an interesting twist, the role of Jafar in the very first production was played by Jonathan Freeman, who voiced the character in the original movie.
