The civil war in Myanmar began after the country was granted independence from the United Kingdom in 1948. Since then, a number of different groups have been competing for control of the country’s government, with political solutions having varying degrees of success in terms of abating hostilities. Since 1948, roughly 200,000 people have lost their lives due to what many people call the world’s longest-running civil war.
