| April 14, 2017
Rainbow Beach, Queensland, Australia
Next time snow comes around, beat the winter blues with a trip to Australia where they have summer in January and the beaches are rainbow colored. At Cooloola National Park in the coastal town of Rainbow Beach, you’ll find beaches made up of as many as 72 different colored sands caused by iron oxide and various vegetation dyes. These brightly hued sands are thought to have been forming since the last ice age, but according to an Aboriginal legend told by the Kabi tribe, the sands got their unique hues from a rainbow spirit that fell off the cliff and onto the beach.
