9. Island of Chiloé – Chile
Island of Chiloé is the fifth largest island in South America, and is located in the south of Chile, in the Los Lagos Region. The island was inhabited by the Spanish conquistadors and the Jesuit missionaries built several churches that are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Chiloé is also famous for the Alfaguara project, which promotes marine conservation. In the Chiloé National Park, which is located in the northwestern part of the island, visitors can see blue whales, sea lions, and Humboldt penguins.
