11. Colonia del Sacramento – Uruguay
If you love historical cities, especially the ones with rich colonial architecture, then Colonia del Sacramento might be the perfect destination for you. It’s one of the oldest towns in Uruguay and the historic quarter is a World Heritage Site.
The town was founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, but due to its strategic location in the River Plate, it was contested by the Spanish, and changed hands several times. With a population of just under 30,000, it’s a great place to relax and take in some history.
