Your Guide to Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro
What to Pack
Rio is hot, hot, hot! Make sure you pack light and quick-drying clothing, because you will be sweating. You absolutely can’t miss the fabulous beaches, so pack a few of your smallest swimsuits (the swimwear in Rio is notoriously tiny for both girls and guys), but leave the towel at home. You’ll definitely be buying a cheap Brazilian canga (sarong) for chilling at the beach, like everyone else.
Your costume will be the most important item that you pack. The most important aspects to capture when planning your fantasia (costume) are fun, frivolous, and funny. Still no ideas? Think Halloween, but minus the scary and maximize the silly. If you’re traveling in a group, capitalize on that fact with a group costume – very popular at Carnaval.
