Mascot Overload: Japan’s Obsession with Mascots
| April 9, 2018
12. Funassyi
Why is Funassyi so adored? How can one not love this sweet and cheerful mascot (bow on the top of its head and all)? The mascot makes everyone smile!
This pear-shaped yuru-kyara is neither male or female and represents Funabashi, Chiba. It was created with a goal to cheer up the locals and help put the town on the map, and it’s done just that! Funassyi has its own CDs and DVDs. Plus, it shows up at festivals, television shows, and commercials as well. It even stars in its own anime series.
Unlike many Japanese mascot who don’t speak, Funassyi has the gift of gab, which places this yuru-kyara in a class all its own.
