Arbroath Smokies
Many beloved Scottish recipes were first made from ingredients that most people wouldn’t think twice about – and Arbroath smokies are a prime example. The story goes that Arbroath smokies were first eaten after a fire destroyed a grocer’s shop and burned a barrel of salted haddock.
The grocer realized that the smoked haddock tasted pretty good and started working on a way to intentionally smoke the rest of his fish. Arbroath smokies are usually eaten for breakfast or added into other dishes like fish pies and soups.
