Tallest Unoccupied Buildings in the World

8. Abraham Lincoln Tower
This American-sounding structure is actually located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has never been given the chance to live up to its Presidential namesake. The 36-story circular tower was designed by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and was meant to be part of a series of towers that would modernize the area. Sadly, the project was abandoned in 1972 due to land ownership issues and bureaucratic roadblocks.
Some of the apartments in the tower had already been purchased and to this day, those owners are still liable for the property taxes on the apartment they never got to occupy. Across the street from the structure, an identical completed tower serves as a painful reminder of what the Abraham Lincoln Tower could have been.
