North Brother Island, New York
Perhaps the last place you’d expect to find an abandoned site, North Brother Island is an isolated 20-acre island near the heart of New York City. It once housed a quarantined medical facility for patients with serious and contagious illnesses, including the famous “Typhoid Mary,” who spent 20 years of her life quarantined on the island. The facility closed down in the 1950s and ever since the island has been a deserted location.
