5 Swiss Alpine Towns You’ll Love
Zermatt – Revealing the Most Photographed Mountain in the World
In the Valais canton, close to the Italian border and at the Matterhorn’s mountain base, Zermatt is a town surrounded by mountains and glaciers — 33 peaks of over 4000 meters altitude. Matterhorn is by far the most outstanding of them, rising above the city just like a shark’s tail. So be prepared to say hello to the most photographed mountain in the whole, wide world.
It’s a car-free place that you can only reach by a 10-minute ride on the mountain train. Amazing, I know! This makes it one of the cleanest and most relaxing European resorts.
Zermatt has certainly kept its traditional mountain-village atmosphere. In the old town, on the cobblestone streets, you’ll be able to admire carriages, sleighs and dozens of wooden houses. Just like a fairytale!
In the center you can see a high church with a steeple and a clock (a Swiss clock, of course) and the Matterhorn Museum, which proudly tells the Matterhorn’s peak conquest story.
Such a small town, but so many things to see!
