13. Dragon Boat Festival in China
Also known as Duanwu, it’s been around for over 2000 years. It celebrates the life of the poet Qu Yuan. It is said that he drowned himself, but people raced on their boats to save him, hence the name Dragon Boat.
14. Horse Games Festival in Kyrgyzstan
Little known to tourists, it’s held in August in the Kyzyl-Oi village. You’ll see people wrestling on top of horses; men courting women, also on horses; and Ulak Tartysh, which is a type of polo.
