Chewing Gum in Turkey
Superstitious Turks believe people who chew gum at night are really chewing on the rotting flesh of the dead. Protect yourself from ill omens like these by donning a nazar (evil eye bead or amulet), which are popular all over Turkey, and are often brought home by tourists as souvenirs.
